Corro, Ex- Officio City Councilor, SK Federation President ABSENT: NONE RESOLUTION NO. 2011-112 A RESOLUTION APPROVING THE ESTABLISHMENT OF CITY SISTERHOOD RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE COUNTY OF HAWAI'I, STATE OF HAWAII, USA AND ORMOC CITY, PHILIPPINES AND ENTER INTO A FORMAL AGREEMENT IN RELATION THERETO. WHEREAS, the Mayor of the County of Hawai'i and the Hawai'i County Council have jointly promoted a Sister City Program to foster friendship and understanding among all the world, particularly those in the pacific basin; WHEREAS, the City Sisterhood program benefits the people of the affiliated cities through exchange of economic development, cultural and educational information of mutual and common interest to the participating parties; WHEREAS, currently there is an open exchange communication between the officials of the County of Hawai'i and Ormoc City discussing the establishment of said City Sisterhood relationship between these two communities; WHEREAS, Hawaii and the Philippines have a long historical connection beginning with the introduction of agricultural workers, known as sakadas, in 1906, and according to the 2005 American Community Survey, 23.5% of the population of the State of Hawaii is of Filipino descent; WHEREAS, Hawaii Island and Ormoc City share many common attributes which includes geothermal energy the latter being the geothermal powerhouse of the Philippines producing more or less 650 megawatt of geo- energy;
