COUNTY OF HAWAI= ` STATE OF HAWAII <br />' -�: J.• <br />BILL NO. 266 <br />ASR OR�NR'� <br />ra <br />ORDINANCE NO. 98 82 <br />AN ORDINANCE NAMING A COUNTY PARK FACILITY PURSUANT TO CHAPTER 15, <br />OF THE HAWAII COUNTY CODE 1983 (1995 EDITION), RELATING TO PARKS AND <br />RECREATION <br />BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII: <br />SECTION 1. Findings and purpose. The purpose of this ordinance is to name the <br />West Hawaii Veterans Cemetery "West Hawaii Veterans Cemetery-Pu'u Ho'omaha O <br />Na Po'e Koa O Hawaii Komohana," pursuant to Chapter 15, Article 8 of the Hawaii <br />County Code of 1983 (1995 Edition) which establishes guidelines for the naming of <br />County facilities. Chapter 15, Article 8, Section 15-67(a)(1) of the Hawaii County Code <br />provides that an aesthetic area may "[b]e named, preferably in the Hawaiian language, in <br />a manner which describes significant features or the geographic location of the aesthetic <br />area." Furthermore, the council desires to further the policy of naming its aesthetic areas <br />with respect for the traditional Hawaiian names for such locations. <br />The name of "Pu'u Ho'omaha O Na Po'e Koa O Hawaii Komohana" means a <br />Resting Place (or cemetery) of the Warriors (or soldiers) of West Hawaii. <br />SECTION 2.' Notwithstanding any other law to the contrary, the West Hawaii <br />Veterans Cemetery is hereby named "West Hawaii Veterans Cemetery-Pu'u Ho'omaha <br />O Na Po'e Koa O Hawaii Komohana" which may be abbreviated'to "Pu'u Ho'omaha." <br />SECTION 3. In the event that any portion of this ordinance is declared invalid, <br />such invalidity shall not affect the other parts of this ordinance. <br />
