• <br /> • <br /> COUNTY OF HAWAI STATE OF HAWAII <br /> t N I <br /> ='m 'f BILL NO. 201 <br /> (Draft 2). <br /> ORDINANCE NO. <br /> AN ORDINANCE NAMING A COUNTY PARK FACILITY PURSUANT TO CHAPTER 15, <br /> OF THE HAWAII COUNTY CODE 1983 (1995 EDITION), RELATING TO PARKS AND <br /> RECREATION <br /> BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI'I: <br /> SECTION 1. Findings and purpose. The purpose of this ordinance is to name the West <br /> Hawai'i Veterans Cemetery"West Hawai'i Veterans Cemetery-Pu'u Ho'omaha 0 Na Po'e Koa 0 <br /> Hawai'i Komohana,"pursuant to Chapter 15, Article 8 of the Hawai'i County Code of 1983 (1995 <br /> Edition) which establishes guidelines for the naming of County facilities. Chapter 15, Article 8, <br /> Section 15-67(a)(1) of the Hawai'i County Code provides that an aesthetic area may"[b]e named, <br /> preferably in the Hawaiian language, in a manner which describes significant features or the <br /> geographic location of the aesthetic area." Furthermore, the council desires to further the policy of <br /> naming its aesthetic areas with respect for the traditional Hawaiian names for such locations. <br /> The name of"Pu'u Ho'omaha 0 Na Po'e Koa Hawai'i Komohana"means a Resting Place <br /> (or cemetery) of the Warriors (or soldiers) of West Hawai'i. <br /> SECTION 2. Notwithstanding any other law to the contrary, the West Hawai'i Veterans <br /> Cemetery is hereby named"West Hawai'i Veterans Cemetery-Pu'u Ho'omaha 0 Na Po'e Koa 0 <br /> Hawai'i Komohana"which may be abbreviated to "Pu'u Ho'omaha." <br /> SECTION 3. In the event that any portion of this ordinance is declared invalid, such <br /> invalidity shall not affect the other parts of this ordinance. <br />
