Sako <br />Deputy Director <br />Cr) <br />rn <br />4 <br />r\) <br />IsO <br />CO <br />7r 1 <br />Re: Agreement with the State of Hawaii Department of Health <br />The State of Hawaii Department of Health, Alcohol and Drug Abuse Division (ADAD), is <br />providing funds for the purpose of supporting the Police's efforts to conduct enforcement <br />operations of minors purchasing tobacco. The Hawaii Police Department will conduct a <br />minimum of six enforcement operations plainclothes officers to observe purchase attempts by <br />minors and to cite any retail store which makes an illegal sale to a minor. They will also <br />establish procedures to orient and supervise youth and adult volunteers to ensure their safety <br />and compliance with operational procedures and assign planning and supervisory staff to <br />ensure that operations are carried out in accordance with state law and Hawaii County Police <br />Department procedures. <br />Enclosed is a resolution authorizing the Mayor to enter into an agreement with the State of <br />Hawaii Department of Health, Alcohol and Drug Abuse Division in order to commence this <br />program. <br />Also enclosed is a bill for an ordinance amending the Operating Budget by appropriating this <br />$8,000 Department of Health - Tobacco Sting Grant. <br />If there are any questions, please do not hesitate to call Nori Ishii from the Police Department, <br />at 961 -2273. <br />Nancy Crawford <br />Director of Finance <br />Enc. <br />cc: Police <br /><ge& 1100-11' 103 <br />Hawaii C my is an Equal Opportunity Provider and Employer <br />Comm.
