Crawford <br />Director <br />Deanna S. Sako <br />Deputy Director <br />The Department of Public Works indicates that the County of Hawaii owns and maintains <br />128 bridges around the island. The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and State <br />Department of Transportation (DOT) mandates that the County inspect and submit a <br />written report for each bridge in a prescribed FHWA format at least once very two years. <br />The report, among other things, highlights the deficiencies and deterioration of bridge <br />elements requiring repairs or replacement since the last report. <br />Enclosed is a bill for an ordinance to add the project titled "Bridge Inspection & Appraisal ", <br />and appropriating $100,000 to the Capital Budget of which $80,000 is provided by federal <br />funding, and $20,000 by the County. <br />If there are any questions, please do not hesitate to call Diane Shiro of the Department of <br />Public Works at 961 -8463. <br />Nancy Crawford <br />Director of Finance <br />Enc. <br />cc: Public Works <br />((i(I 157) <br />Hawaii County is an Equal Opportunity Provider and Employer <br />Conrn No. .5-0 <br />Ref.
