BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION (USE ADDITIONAL SHEETS AS NEEDED): <br />The Dell Foundation is offering this grant to the Fire Department's EMS Bureau for the purchase of a much <br />needed lntraosseous access device for each of our 15 ALS ambulances. This device will allow EMS <br />personnel to treat the critically injured trauma victims who are in need of intravenous fluids however, having <br />no venous access due to shock. The lntraosseous driver is a hand held device which gains vascular access <br />through a needle inserted into the bone marrow and takes about 10 seconds to complete whereas <br />conventional IV access takes an average of 10 -12 minutes. <br />SIGNED: <br />Department Head <br />DEC 2 3 2011 <br />DATE: <br />
