Sako Deputy Director Re: Operating Budget The State of Hawaii Department of Human Services Office of Youth Services is providing federally derived funds of $200,000 to support the Prosecuting Attorney's Office's implementation of the Big Island Juvenile Intake and Assessment Center (BIJIAC) project in Hawaii County. The objective of the BIJIAC concept is to provide juvenile offenders with a single point of entry for assessment, crisis intervention, service integration, short- term holding, and referral. If this pilot program is successful, the Prosecuting Attorney's Office anticipates continued funding to be provided by the Office of Youth Services. Enclosed is a resolution to authorize the Mayor to enter into an agreement with the State of Hawaii Department of Human Services for this grant. Also enclosed is a bill for an ordinance amending the Operating Budget by appropriating this $200,000 Big Island Juvenile Intake and Assessment Center (BIJIAC) grant award. Due to the grant timeline, the Prosecuting Attorney's Office is requesting that this Bill be waived from the Finance Committee and be placed on the February 15, 2012 Council agenda.
