REPORT OF THE <br /> COMMITTEE ON PLANNING <br /> DATE: January 31, 2012 Re: Comm. 530 <br /> PLACE: Council Chambers <br /> Hilo, Hawai`i <br /> TIME: 10:31 a.ni. <br /> Council Chair and Members <br /> Hawai`i County Council <br /> Hilo, Hawai`i 96720 <br /> Your Committee on Planning, to which was referred Comm. 530, reports as follows: <br /> Communication No. 530, from Mayor Billy Kenoi, dated January 9, 2012, requests confirmation <br /> of the appointment of Nominee Ms. Susan L. Lee Loy of Council District 4 to the County of <br /> Hawai`i Water Board. Ms. Lee Loy is a lifelong resident of Hawai`i. Since 1994, she has <br /> worked for several local offices as a legal assistant and planner, which she continues to do with <br /> her current employer. the Law Office of Ted Hong. <br /> Ms. I,ee Loy is the secretary of Kamehameha School's PTO, and a member of Waiakeawaena's <br /> PTA, where she also coaches their Robotic Team. She is not affiliated with any political party; <br /> and if confirmed, will serve a term to expire on December 31, 2016. <br /> Ms. Charmaine Shigemura, Executive Assistant to Mayor Kenoi, introduced the applicant, <br /> Ms. Lee Loy, who was present at the Hilo Chambers. <br /> Ms. Lee Loy stated that she is a resident of District 4 and enjoys raising her family there. She is <br /> eager to serve the community and considers it noble work. She also stated she believes everyone <br /> should do some kind of community service or volunteer work. <br /> Council Member Onishi stated the Ms. Lee Loy is from his district and he has known her for a <br /> long time. He further stated that he supports this nomination and that it would add a woman to <br /> the Water Board. Committee Chair Hoffmann also confirmed that she would be the only woman <br /> on the Board and expressed his support of her nomination. <br /> Council Member Ikeda related that he has known Ms. Lee Loy for a longtime and has worked <br /> with her in the past. Ile also expressed his full support of her nomination and thanked her for her <br /> community service. Council Member Bias also thanked Ms. Lee Loy for her volunteer work and <br /> for being involved in the community. <br /> Council Member Yoshimoto affirmed Ms. Lee Loy's knowledge and experience as a planner <br /> would benefit the Water Board and is in strong support of her nomination. Council Member <br /> Pilago also voiced his strong support of this nomination and thanked Ms. Lee Loy for her <br /> community service. <br /> PC Rept. No.: 40 <br />
