Konawaena High <br /> Chris Jones Matthew Yamada <br /> Konawaena High 2012 HAWAII HIGH SCHOOL Konawaena High <br /> Cheynielle Pacheco COUNTY COUNCIL <br /> Honoka'a High <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 1 <br /> A RESOLUTION ENCOURAGING THE GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF HAWAII <br /> TO APPROPRIATE NECESSARY FUNDING FOR THE PLANNING AND <br /> CONSTRUCTION OF TWO CARDIOLOGY TRAUMA CENTERS ON THE ISLAND <br /> OF HAWAII. <br /> WHEREAS, statistically a heart attack occurs every twenty seconds, heart-related deaths <br /> occur every minute, and of the 1.5 million people who experience heart attacks, five hundred <br /> thousand results in death; and <br /> WHEREAS, at 9.3 per 1,000 population, Hawai`i Island has the highest rate of <br /> cardiology hospitalization in comparison to that of Kaua`i (7.7 per 1,000 population), Maui (7.5 <br /> per 1,000 population), and O`ahu, the lowest (6.7 per 1,000 population); and <br /> WHEREAS, in 2008 the State of Hawai`i experienced five hundred fifty-eight more <br /> cardiology-related hospitalizations than in 1995; and <br /> WHEREAS, cardiology-related hospitalizations that occur on the Island of Hawai`i are <br /> the highest in the state and frequently require that patients be flown from Hawai`i to O`ahu for <br /> necessary medical attention which includes time expended for ground and air transportation; and <br /> WHEREAS, the high rate of cardiology-related incidents on Hawai`i Island, the vast <br /> geographical expanse of the island, and the need for quick access to obtain cardiac-related <br /> treatment, would justify the need for construction of cardiac trauma centers located in the <br /> • vicinity of Waimea and Puna; now, therefore, <br />
