REPORT OF THE COMMITTEE ON FINANCE DATE: January 8, 2013 Re: Comm.No. 55/Res.No. 32-13 PLACE: Council Chambers Hilo, Hawai`i TIME: 2:40 p.m. Council Chair and Members Hawai`i County Council Hilo, Hawai`i 96720 Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Resolution No. 32-13, reports as follows: Resolution No. 32-13,transmitted by Finance Director Nancy Crawford via Communication No. 55, dated December 21, 2012, authorizes the acceptance of fire rescue equipment and training tuition, valued at $48,279.56. This training tuition and equipment will be used by the Hawai`i Fire Department's Fire Rescue and Ocean Safety Divisions to provide for the safety of our Fire Department personnel and to facilitate the safe delivery of rescue services to the public. Pursuant to Article XIII, Section 13-12, Hawaii County Charter, the Council, on behalf of the County, may accept gifts or donations of money. Battalion Chief Gerald Kosaki, from the Fire Department, appeared before Your Committee for questions. On behalf of the Fire Department, he offered his condolences for the recent death of Ms. Laura Sayer's mother. It was suggested that the Fire Department and County Council send a letter of condolence to the Sayre family. Committee members expressed a high level of gratitude and appreciation to the Sayers for their ongoing support of the Fire Department's rescue services. Ms. Ford commended the Fire Department for their dedication of service. A letter of appreciation and a copy of this resolution will be sent to the Daniel Sayre Memorial Foundation, P. O. Box 1285, Kailua-Kona, Hawai`i 96745, acknowledging this generous donation. Your Committee on Finance is in accord with the purpose and intent of Resolution No. 32-13, and recommends its adoption.
