No. 90, reports as follows: <br /> Communication No. 90, transmitted by Mayor Billy Kenoi, dated January 11, 2013, nominates <br /> Mark C. Bartell to a 2-year term on the Game Management Advisory Commission. Mr. Bartell <br /> has been a resident of Hawai`i for 25 years. He is a self-employed farmer and charter fisherman. <br /> Mr. Bartell states that he is a Republican. <br /> Executive Assistant to the Mayor Charmaine Shigemura introduced Mr. Mark C. Bartell as the <br /> District 8 nominee for the Game Management Advisory Commission. <br /> Mr. Bartell was present in the Kailua-Kona Council Chambers and stated that he grew up on <br /> O`ahu. His parents and family are very active water people, and he learned about hunting while <br /> pursuing a career on the mainland. He further stated that since moving back to the Big Island <br /> seven years ago he has been involved in an archery club which teaches children about hunting. <br /> For the last four years he has been very involved with Department of Land and Natural <br /> Resources issues and stated that the hunters, gatherers, and fishermen have very little say in <br /> decisions being made regarding land use. In closing, Mr. Bartell feels the fishermen and hunters <br /> need a voice to establish a balance especially for the next generation and the generations to <br /> come. <br /> Council Member Eoff thanked Mr. Bartell for being part of the original group to come forward <br /> during the past Council term to discuss the concept of a Game Management Advisory' <br /> Commission. She stated that she was glad to see his nomination to the Commission. <br /> Council Member Ford confirmed that Mr. Bartell does not collect reef fish for sales to the <br /> aquarium trade. <br /> Mr. Bartell is not required to be present at the final confirmation before the full Council. <br /> AWESC Rept.
