Form #: B-52
7/18/91
DEPARTMENT OF FINANCE
REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION
DEPARTMENT: Human Resources DATE: February 4, 2013
STAFF CONTACT: Sharon Toriano PHONE: 961-8361
A. REQUEST:
Approval authorizing the Mayor to enter into an agreement with the State of Hawaii Department of Human
Resources Development to provide workers' compensation administration services.
B. BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION (USE ADDITIONAL SHEETS AS NEEDED):
The Department of Human Resources Workers' Compensation Division would like to renew its agreement
with the State of Hawaii Department of Human Resources Development to provide workers' compensation
administration services. The service provided by the State has been a cost effective solution in reducing the
number of open claims for the County. Lower case loads per adjuster allow for more thorough and
aggressive claims management, speedier resolution, and therefore lower claim cost. Complexity and
severity of injury are considerations to maintaining a manageable case load per adjuster. We would like to
continue to have the State of Hawaii Department of Human Resources Development provide workers'
compensation administration services for the Department of Parks and Recreation and the Police
Department.
SIGNED: DATE: U..t ?
Departrrfit Head
