Kingman Trust,North Kona(1 parcel)—(non-PONC purchase) <br /> 49-11 Kahuku Coastal Property, Ka`ii <br /> 71-11 Pohoiki Bay, Puna <br /> 240-12 Banyans Beach,North Kona <br /> 276-12 `O`oma II,North Kona <br /> As you are aware,the County has successfully completed six acquisitions totaling 955.2047 acres with <br /> funds from the Public Access, Open Space and Natural Resources Preservation Fund (FUND). In addition, a <br /> total of$4,166,750.00 was obtained from state and federal grants towards these completed acquisitions. <br /> Below is a summary of each purchase and what has been done with the properties. <br /> Waipi`o Lookout,Hamakua <br /> The first purchase was completed in October 2007 for 1.8 acres, Tax Map Key(TMK): (3)4-8- <br /> 04:06 at the gateway into Waipi`o Valley, now formally designated as the Waipi`o Community <br /> Park for a purchase price of$900,000.00. <br /> Currently,there is a Parks Community Partnership Program Agreement executed between Parks& <br /> Recreation and Friends of the Future, a 501(c)(3)community group that continue to manage and <br /> provide upkeep and maintenance on the property. <br /> Kawa'a Bay& Kawa,Ka`n <br /> The second purchase was completed in January 2008 and involved one of four parcels(TMK: (3) <br /> 9-5-17:07)totaling 234.293 acres for a purchase price of$1,920,000.00. The County was able to <br /> supplement the sale with a$1,214,750.00 grant from the State of Hawai`i, Department of Land and <br /> Natural Resources(DLNR), Legacy Land Conservation Program(LLCP). <br /> The fifth purchase finalized in November 2011,was for the three remaining parcels <br /> (TMK's: (3)9-5-16:06 &25; 9-5-17:05)totaling 550.871 acres. The County, with the assistance of <br /> The Trust for Public Lands(TPL), obtained$1,500,000.00 from the State, DLNR LLCP along with <br /> $507,000.00 from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife,Recovery Land Acquisition Grant towards the <br /> purchase price of$3,900,000.00. <br /> Now that the acquisition of the four Kawa parcels has been completed, an archaeological <br /> reconnaissance survey is being conducted to address the historical and cultural sites on the <br /> properties. Once the survey is completed, it will contribute to the overall management plan for <br /> Kawa. Currently, access is limited to non-vehicular pedestrian traffic, open to the public from 6:00 <br /> a.m.to 6:00 p.m. daily. <br /> County of Hawaii is an Equal Opportunity Provider and Employer <br />
