Kingman Trust,North Kona(1 parcel)—(non-PONC purchase) 49-11 Kahuku Coastal Property, Ka`ii 71-11 Pohoiki Bay, Puna 240-12 Banyans Beach,North Kona 276-12 `O`oma II,North Kona As you are aware,the County has successfully completed six acquisitions totaling 955.2047 acres with funds from the Public Access, Open Space and Natural Resources Preservation Fund (FUND). In addition, a total of$4,166,750.00 was obtained from state and federal grants towards these completed acquisitions. Below is a summary of each purchase and what has been done with the properties. Waipi`o Lookout,Hamakua The first purchase was completed in October 2007 for 1.8 acres, Tax Map Key(TMK): (3)4-8- 04:06 at the gateway into Waipi`o Valley, now formally designated as the Waipi`o Community Park for a purchase price of$900,000.00. Currently,there is a Parks Community Partnership Program Agreement executed between Parks& Recreation and Friends of the Future, a 501(c)(3)community group that continue to manage and provide upkeep and maintenance on the property. Kawa'a Bay& Kawa,Ka`n The second purchase was completed in January 2008 and involved one of four parcels(TMK: (3) 9-5-17:07)totaling 234.293 acres for a purchase price of$1,920,000.00. The County was able to supplement the sale with a$1,214,750.00 grant from the State of Hawai`i, Department of Land and Natural Resources(DLNR), Legacy Land Conservation Program(LLCP). The fifth purchase finalized in November 2011,was for the three remaining parcels (TMK's: (3)9-5-16:06 &25; 9-5-17:05)totaling 550.871 acres. The County, with the assistance of The Trust for Public Lands(TPL), obtained$1,500,000.00 from the State, DLNR LLCP along with $507,000.00 from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife,Recovery Land Acquisition Grant towards the purchase price of$3,900,000.00. Now that the acquisition of the four Kawa parcels has been completed, an archaeological reconnaissance survey is being conducted to address the historical and cultural sites on the properties. Once the survey is completed, it will contribute to the overall management plan for Kawa. Currently, access is limited to non-vehicular pedestrian traffic, open to the public from 6:00 a.m.to 6:00 p.m. daily. County of Hawaii is an Equal Opportunity Provider and Employer
