Council Chair and Members Hawaii County Council Hilo, Hawaii 96720 Your Committee on Public Works and Parks and Recreation, to which was referred Bill No. 97, reports as follows: Bill No. 97, transmitted by Public Works Director Warren H. Lee, via Communication No. 339 dated June 19, 2013, amends Chapter 24, Article 11 (Schedules—Private Streets), Division 1 (Speed Limits), Section 24-302, Schedule 6 (Reserved), of the Hawaii County Code 1983 (2005 Edition, as amended) relating to thirty-five mile an hour speed limit on private streets. This amendment inserts a language in the previously reserved Schedule 6, to provide for a 35 mile per hour speed limit on private streets or portions thereof in all districts in the County of Hawaii; and specifically for Shower, Kaloli, Paradise and Maku`u Drives in the Hawaiian Paradise Park Subdivision in the Puna District. The intent of this amendment is to address a request by the Hawaiian Paradise Park Owners Association to establish speed limits in the Hawaii county code for the Hawaiian paradise Park subdivision so said speed limits can be properly enforced by the police. Ms. June Conant, a resident of Hawaiian Paradise Park, testified in support of this measure.
