Honorable J Yoshimoto, Chair and <br />Members of the Hawaii County Council <br />February 20, 2014 <br />Page 4 <br />Management and Stewardship <br />As the County continues to acquire properties with the FUND, long -term management and <br />stewardship remains a concern of the Commission. With the creation of the Public Access, Open Space and <br />Natural Resources Preservation Maintenance Fund, monies can now be used for maintenance of lands and <br />easements acquired by the FUND for specified purposes as outlined in the Hawaii County Charter, Section <br />10 -16. In addition, once implemented by the Department of Parks & Recreation, non - profit organizations can <br />apply for stewardship grants to assist the County in long -term management of these properties for continued <br />preservation and open space protection. <br />Recommendations <br />Finally, as my formal recommendation in connection with what has been submitted by the Public <br />Access, Open Space and Natural Resources Preservation Commission, I would recommend that the County <br />Council accept the list as presented by the Commission.
