Of the 27 traffic fatalities on the Big Island, 77.7% were impaired-related. <br /> From 2007 to 2010, the Big Island has experienced 125 traffic fatalities, and 84 or <br /> 67.20/0 were impaired-related. The Hawai'i Police Department (HPD) believes <br /> enforcement in the form of visible Impaired Driving Roadblocks is an important deterrence to <br /> drinking'and driving. <br /> The following shows the number of Operating a Vehicle Under the Influence of an Intoxicant <br /> (OVUII) arrests HPD has obtained over the past four years with grant funds: <br /> • Federal Fiscal Year 2009 - 65 <br /> • Federal Fiscal Year 2010 - 53 <br /> • Federal Fiscal Year 2011 - 66 <br /> • Federal Fiscal Year 2012 - 63 <br />
