REPORT OF THE COMMITTEE ON FINANCE DATE: March 3, 2015 Re: Comm. No. 135/Res. No. 91-15 PLACE: Council Chambers Hilo, Hawaii TIME: 9:50 a.m. Council Chair and Members Hawaii County Council Hilo, Hawaii 96720 Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Resolution No. 91-15, reports as follows: Resolution No. 91-15, transmitted by Finance Director Deanna S. Sako, via Communication No. 135 dated February 12, 2015, accepts the negotiated lease agreement for Hamakua lands identified as Tax Map Keys (3)4-3-009-055, 056, 057 and 058 with Crown Pacific International LLC, pursuant to Section 2-114 of the Hawaii County Code. This resolution allows the County of Hawaii to enter into a 10 -year lease agreement with Crown Pacific International, LLC for these properties. Finance Property Manager Hamana Ventura and Deputy Corporation Counsel Craig Masuda appeared before Your Committee for questions. Mr. Masuda explained that this lease has been negotiated and stated that the Council must vet each lease for these lands and may approve or deny the lease. He further commented that Okinawan sweet potatoes will be grown on the property. Pursuant to Section 2-114 of the Hawaii County Code, the Council may require in the initial resolution that the negotiated agreement be accepted by the Council.
