Akiyama, Housing Administrator PHONE <br />05/13/2015 <br />961-8379 <br />The Office of Housing and Community Development is requesting the appropriation of $ 500,000.00 to the <br />Housing Voucher Program (Account Number 152.3301.54). This amount represents an increase in <br />revenues received from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to be used for Housing <br />Assistance Payment subsidies, and is to cover the expenditure account number 152.461.5466.30.371, <br />Voucher rental subsidies. <br />B. BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION (USE ADDITIONAL SHEETS AS NEEDED): <br />The increase in appropriation reflects the updated allocation to be received from the U.S. Department of <br />Housing and Urban Development for the period July 1, 2014 through June 30, 2015 for the Housing Choice <br />Voucher (Section 8) Program. The $500,000.00 is to be used for payment of rental assistance for eligible <br />participants of the program. The OHCD expects to expend this allocation by June 30, 2015. <br />To expedite this matter, the Office of Housing and Community Development humbly requests a waiver from <br />the Finance Committee and to have this bill heard at the next Council meeting scheduled for June 3, 2015 <br />for approval in place by June 30, 2015 to ensure timely payment of Housing Assistance to the Section 8 <br />Program landlords.
