HAWAII 96720
AW ,
TELEPHONE (808) 961 -8050 • FAX (808) 961-8657
November 25, 2015
Mr. Peter Dahlberg
Aina Engineers Inc.
P.O. Box 81
Hulualoa, HI 96725
Dear Mr. Dahlberg:
Subject: Water Usage Calculations for Apartment Building and Commercial Kitchen
Change of Zone Ordiance No. 03-115
Applicant—Tante Urban
Tax Map Key 7-5-022:040
We have reviewed the subject estimated water usage calculations and find them acceptable. Based on
the estimated maximum daily usage of 4,298 gallons per day (GPD), the proposed development will
require eight (8) units of water, at a maximum of 600 GPD per unit. A 1V2-inch meter should be
adequate to support that demand for the proposed project.
Pursuant to Rule 5 of the Department's Rules and Regulations, a water commitment may be issued.
Based on the seven(7) additional units of water needed (one (1) unit of water allotted through an
existing 5/8-inch water meter), the required water commitment deposit is $150.00 per additional unit,
or$1,050.00. Remittance of the water commitment deposit is requested as soon as possible so that a
water commitment may be formally effected. The commitment will be in writing with specific dates
and conditions stated. Upon receipt of the water commitment deposit, we will provide our
requirements for water service, applicable facilities charges due, and other conditions for final
approval.
The commercial zoning requires the installation of a reduced pressure type back-flow prevention
assembly (BFP) within five(5) feet of the meter on private property. The installation of the backflow
prevention assembly must be inspected and approved by the Department.
The Department's Water System Standards require that a minimum of 2,000 GPM be available at the
site for fire protection for commercial zoning. Please be informed that the nearest fire hydrant is
connected to a 6-inch waterline. within Kalawa Street, which is inadequate to provide the required fire
flow. The applicant should contact the Fire Department to determine any other fire protection
requirements.
. .`Ybrater, Our Most Precious Resource . . , Ka Wai,r4 pane . . .
