No. 951 <br /> PLACE: Council Chambers <br /> Hilo, Hawai`i <br /> TIME: 2:00 p.m. <br /> Council Chair and Members <br /> Hawaii County Council <br /> Hilo, Hawaii 96720 <br /> Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Communication No. 951, reports as follows: <br /> Communication No. 951, transmitted by Mayor William P. Kenoi dated July 14, 2016, <br /> nominates Mrs. Florence K. Ikeda, of Council District 2 to the Hawaii County Salary <br /> Commission. <br /> Charmaine Shigemura, Executive Assistant to Mayor Kenoi, came forward and provided <br /> background information on Nominee Ikeda. Ms. Shigemura explained that Nominee Ikeda is <br /> out-of-state, and therefore not present for introduction; however, she requested Council's <br /> favorable action of this appointment. If confirmed, Ms. Ikeda would fill a vacant term that will <br /> expire on December 31, 2020, and that she is affiliated with the Democratic Party. <br /> Several Council Members spoke in favor of Mrs. Ikeda's nomination based upon her merits, with <br /> the exclusion of Ms. Wille, due to the nominee not being present. Mr. Ilagan spoke in support of <br /> moving this forward and having the nominee come before full Council. <br /> Pursuant to Section 13-28 of the Hawaii County Charter, there shall be a salary commission, <br /> which shall consist of nine members, appointed by the mayor with the approval of the council. <br /> Your Committee on Finance is in accord with the purpose and intent of Communication No. 951, <br /> and recommends confirmation of the appointment of Mrs. Florence K.
