REPORT OF THE <br /> COMMITTEE ON PLANNING <br /> DATE: October 18, 2016 Re: Comm.No. 1096 <br /> PLACE: Council Chambers <br /> Kailua-Kona, Hawai`i <br /> TIME: 1:03 p.m. <br /> Council Chair and Members <br /> Hawai`i County Council <br /> Hilo, Hawai`i 96720 <br /> Your Committee on Planning, to which was referred Communication No. 1096, reports as follows: <br /> Communication No. 1096, submitted by Mayor William P. Kenoi dated September 27, 2016, nominates <br /> Michael R. Bernard to the Puna Community Development Plan Action Committee, for a four-year term <br /> to end on December 20, 2020. <br /> Mr. Bernard was introduced by Ilihia Gionson, Executive Assistant to Mayor Kenoi. Speaking by <br /> videoconference from Hilo, Mr. Bernard said he has been involved in the community for seven and a <br /> half years, working with students and community members, and he said he would like to continue his <br /> services using his background in education, grant writing, marketing and communication. Mr. Bernard <br /> said he appreciates the opportunity to use these skills for the benefit of the Puna community. <br /> Mr. Paleka said that Mr. Bernard brings a good perspective, that he is well-qualified, and a good asset to <br /> the Puna Community Development Plan Action Committee. <br /> Ms. Eoff asked Planning Director Duane Kanuha whether this nomination and the others being <br /> discussed today, if approved, would fill out the Action Committee. Director Kanuha stated his belief that <br /> this is the case. <br /> Mr. Ilagan thanked Mr. Bernard for stepping up and getting involved. Mr. Ilagan said Mr. Bernard has a <br /> lot of skills and wisdom and compassion for the committee, wished him the best of luck, and asked for <br /> the support of the other council members. <br /> Mr. Bernard was informed that he is not required to be present for Council confirmation. <br /> PC Report No. 76 <br />
