REPORT OF THE <br /> COMMITTEE ON PUBLIC WORKS AND <br /> PARKS AND RECREATION <br /> DATE: November 15, 2016 Re: Comm.No. 1177/Bill No. 267 <br /> PLACE: Council Chambers <br /> Kailua-Kona, Hawai`i <br /> TIME: 11:30 a.m. <br /> Council Chair and Members <br /> Hawai`i County Council <br /> Hilo, Hawai`i 96720 <br /> Your Committee on Public Works and Parks and Recreation,to which was referred Bill No. 267, <br /> reports as follows: <br /> Bill No. 267, transmitted by Public Works Director Warren H.W. Lee, via Communication <br /> No. 1177 dated September 29, 2016, amends Chapter 24, Article 10, Division 1, of the Hawai`i <br /> County Code 1983 (2005 Edition, as amended), relating to speed limits. <br /> The bill amends Schedule 5 (35 mile per hour limit)by revising a portion of Kuakini Highway, <br /> Subsection(f), Kona. <br /> Chair Kanuha, who is in support of Bill No. 267, requested clarification on the maps provided <br /> within the bill. <br /> Traffic Division Chief Ronald Thiel appeared before Your Committee for questions. He <br /> addressed Chair Kanuha's request for clarification on the maps and explained that <br /> Kuakini Highway is currently 35 miles per hour south of Walua Road, and then it turns into <br /> 45 miles per hour.
