COUNTY OF HAWAII •_ <br />'T� CF•M►� <br />RESOLUTION NO. <br />STATE OF HAWAII <br />74 17 <br />A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT <br />AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A <br />DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO THE BIG ISLAND <br />RESOURCE CONSERVATION AND DEVELOPMENT COUNCIL TO ASSIST WITH <br />EXPENSES RELATED TO THE PARANGAL DANCE COMPANY, A FILIPINO FOLK <br />DANCE GROUP FROM CALIFORNIA. <br />WHEREAS, the Big Island Resource Conservation and Development Council (BIRCD) <br />is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose purpose is to accelerate the conservation, <br />development, and utilization of natural resources, improve economic activity, and to enhance the <br />environment and standard of living in designated areas; and <br />WHEREAS, BIRCD's vision is to conserve, enhance, and promote the economic, <br />cultural, and natural environment of Hawaii Island; and <br />WHEREAS, the Parangal Dance Company is a Filipino folk dance group based in <br />San Francisco, California, whose goal is to serve as a bridge, inspiring and connecting Filipino <br />Americans to their roots to give them a sense of pride and identity, while educating diverse <br />communities to foster awareness and appreciation of the Filipino culture; and <br />WHEREAS, the Parangal Dance Company will be performing at the 54th Annual <br />Merrie Monarch Festival, the Merrie Monarch Royal Parade, and at two or three schools on <br />Hawaii Island; and <br />WHEREAS, BIRCD has supported many cultural events over the years such as the <br />Hawaii Island Festival — 30 Days of Aloha, the Ka`u Coffee Festival, and the Veteran's Day <br />Parade, and this year, BIRCD would like to support the Parangal Dance Company and its <br />members as they take part in the Merrie Monarch Festival in hopes that they will continue to <br />visit Hawaii Island and participate in future events; and <br />
