AGING <br /> AGING <br /> Program Highlights <br /> The Office of Aging carried out the following major projects and/or initiatives for <br /> FY 2016-17: <br /> HCOA SERVED ALL REGARDLESS OF ELIGIBILITY OR AGE <br /> AGING AND DISABILITY RESOURCE CENTER(ADRC) <br /> • HCOA's East Hawai`i Aging and Disability Resource Center(ADRC)provide <br /> services for all consumers regardless of age. These services include information, <br /> referral, and options counseling for home and community-based services. There is <br /> also an ADRC set-up at the West Hawai`i Civic Center with similar services. Each <br /> month, the ADRC provides information, assistance, and referral to a minimum of <br /> 500 consumers, and options counseling to over 100 clients and their families. <br /> Also,the office processed an average of 125 parking placard applications per <br /> month at the East Hawai`i ADRC, and 80 per month at the West Hawai`i ADRC. <br /> PUBLIC EDUCATION AND TRAINING <br /> • The ADRC continues to create new and lasting connections in FY 2015-16 via in- <br /> service training to over 25 community agencies, including but not limited to <br /> Bayada Home Health, Hilo Medical Center, ILWU, Hilo Visayas Club, Hospice, <br /> Life Care Center in Hilo and Kona, Regency at Hualalai, Tutu's House,Americare <br /> Hawai`i, and Helping Hands Home Care. <br /> • HCOA also coordinated 27 TV interviews which were individually aired Monday <br /> and Tuesday nights on the Na Leo Public Access TV. This weekly show called, <br /> "Rise Above Hawai`i with Dr. Kimo"reaches approximately 55,000 households <br /> significantly increasing awareness of services HCOA provides. <br /> • The Silver Bulletin continues as HCOA's monthly public education newsletter <br /> provided to subscribers, by mail and at various pick-up points throughout the <br /> island. 4,200 copies of the Silver Bulletin are distributed each month. <br /> • HCOA also provides a monthly caregiver newsletter mail-out, "The Comfort of <br /> Home Caregiver Assistance News, Caring for You,and Caring for Others." The <br /> newsletter is mailed to approximately 500 caregivers and covers an array of <br /> subjects that address caregiver needs. The newsletter provides suggestions on <br /> self-care, inspirational quotes, safety tips and a monthly quiz. Copies are shared <br /> with various providers and constituents within the community. <br /> • Throughout the year, HCOA and the aging network focused on strengthening <br /> support for Family Caregivers island-wide.
