,.4oJtZY of Mt.' <br /> COUNTY OF HAWAII ,{_P�`''=�:V:_* STATE OF HAWAII <br /> '')ATE OF•N,'6-. <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 167 17 <br /> A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT <br /> AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A <br /> DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO FRIENDS OF NELHA <br /> FOR THE 8TH ANNUAL OCEAN ENERGY AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT <br /> SYMPOSIUM AND WORKSHOP. <br /> WHEREAS, Friends of NELHA(FON) is a 501(c)(3)nonprofit whose mission is to <br /> provide education and outreach at the Natural Energy Laboratory Hawai`i Authority(NELHA) <br /> for the responsible and sustainable use of renewable resources for energy, aquaculture, and ocean <br /> technology; and <br /> WHEREAS NELHA is a state-operated ocean science and technologypark at Keahole <br /> p <br /> Point, and is home to the world's largest operational Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion(OTEC) <br /> plant; and <br /> WHEREAS,NELHA is recognized worldwide as an unique and innovative ocean <br /> research,business, and technology park; and <br /> WHEREAS,pursuant to Resolution No. 42-11, Draft 2,the County of Hawaii and <br /> Kumejima, Okinawa established a Sister-City relationship based on shared commonalities— <br /> Kumejima and Hawai`i Island are two of the few locations in the world that have a deep <br /> seawater pipeline and operational OTEC facilities; and <br /> WHEREAS, one of the projects created in accordance with the Kumejima and Hawai`i <br /> Island Sister-City partnership is an annual Ocean Energy Workshop and Symposium focusing on <br /> OTEC and ocean energy innovations; and <br /> WHEREAS, since 2010, Kumejima and Hawai`i Island have alternated years hosting <br /> this annual symposium and workshop; and <br />
