Poindexter, Council Chairwoman <br /> RE: Proposed Amendment to Resolution No. 228-17; A Resolution to Establish a <br /> Sister-City Relationship Between the Municipality of Cabugao, Province of Ilocos <br /> Sur, Philippines and the County of Hawai`i. <br /> Please find attached proposed amendments to Resolution No. 228-17. The proposed <br /> amendments are illustrated below in Ramseyer format with respect to the contents of <br /> Resolution No. 228-17, and bolded for illustrative purposes. <br /> 1. The sixth Whereas clause is amended to read as follows: <br /> "WHEREAS, the Municipality of Cabugao[, and Hawai`i Island are said <br /> to be the most beautiful islands in their respective island chains relying] is located <br /> near the ocean, and like Hawai`i Island, relies on the economies of tourism and <br /> agriculture to support [their-populations] its population; and" <br /> 2. The seventh Whereas clause is amended to read as follows: <br /> "WHEREAS, the first wave of Ilocano migrants, also known as Sakadas, <br /> came to Hawai`i in 1906 to work as laborers in sugar and pineapple plantations <br /> and have historically been referred to as Hawayanos [from the Municipality of <br /> Cabugao through the Port of Salomague]; and" <br /> (tam.
