The eighth Whereas clause is replaced in its entirety with new language: <br /> "[WHEREAS,these Sakadas came to Hawai`i as laborers to work in <br /> sugar and pineapple plantations beginning in the late 19th century and continuing <br /> through 1916, and have historically been referred to as Hawayanos; and] <br /> WHEREAS,the last wave of Sakadas were recruited in 1946 by the <br /> Hawai i Sugar Planters' Association to bring new labor to break an <br /> anticipated • <br /> strike that was expected to occur; and" <br /> A draft copy of Resolution 228-17, Draft 2, is attached with these proposed amendments <br /> incorporated therein.
