He also noted the <br /> Council appreciates the support of the Maui County Council in moving a <br /> resolution forward supporting the GET extension. <br /> 2. County of Hawaii Report. President Kanuha said there is not too much <br /> to report since the last HSAC meeting. The Council supported a <br /> resolution to look into furthering a shooting range on Hawaii Island. As <br /> a rural community, there is support for not only hunting efforts, but <br /> places where police and federal agencies can train for the use of guns. <br /> Also, the County has been trying to enforce laws at parks and when they <br /> can be used. He said there has been an influx of homeless, mainly on the <br /> -Kona side, which has proven troublesome for the community. They have <br /> • been doing clean-ups to make sure parks can be used by all individuals. <br /> He said there are 75 or more people who have been removed from the <br /> parks. Nonprofits have been helping. The County will do full-time <br /> security in parks. <br /> 3. County of Kauai Report. Vice President Kawakami said yesterday Kauai <br /> got an update from their Washington DC consultant, Smith Dawson & <br /> Andrews. Kauai was successful in obtaining a big Transportation <br /> Investment Generating Economic Recovery (TIGER) grant that the <br /> County will be using to revitalize the Rice Street area, its urban area. <br /> The County is focusing on multimodal transportation at Rice Street. <br /> Kauai County is focused on rebuilding relationships in DC. He said the <br /> new way to approach appropriations and funding has been through <br /> grants, which is different from earmarks. They discussed some of the <br /> Mayor's priorities in DC, which include saving their post office, which is <br /> critical to the revitalization of the Rice Street area. Another issue is the <br /> potential FAA prioritization. They touched upon current Community <br /> Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding. Just to maintain what <br /> Kauai has in funding is considered a victory. They discussed the <br /> President's proposed. budget cuts and how they might impact Kauai. <br /> They discussed how the Council could become more active in getting <br /> priorities heard in DC_ He said the Administration is open to having <br /> voices heard. <br /> �l. County of Maui Report. Secretary Crivello reported the Council passed <br /> Resolution 17-125 to request the support of HSAC and its Executive <br /> Committee for the State Legislature's approval of an extension of the <br /> Honolulu general excise and use tax surcharge as necessary to enable the <br /> completion of a minimum operable segment of the Honolulu rail. The <br /> Office of the County Auditor released its plan of audits for FY 2018, to <br /> include the Charter-mandated Comprehensive Annual Financial Report <br /> (CAFR), county vehicle use, a peer review of the Office of the County <br /> Auditor, and a review of premium pay and overtime and County <br /> employee travel.
