No. 488 <br /> PLACE: Council Chambers <br /> Kailua-Kona, Hawai`i <br /> TIME: 11:54 a.m. ' <br /> Council Chair and Members <br /> Hawai`i County Council <br /> Hilo, Hawaii 96720 <br /> Your Committee on Public Works and Parks and Recreation,to which was referred <br /> Communication No. 488, reports as follows: <br /> Communication No. 488, transmitted by Mayor Harry Kim, dated September 25, 2017, appoints <br /> Roxcie L. Waltjen as the Director of Parks and Recreation for the County of Hawaii, pursuant to <br /> Article VI, Section 6-3.2 of the Hawaii County Charter. <br /> Mr. Wilfred Okabe, Managing Director to Mayor Kim, introduced Ms. Waltjen to the Council. He <br /> expressed his strong support for Ms. Waltjen and her ability to manage the County's second largest <br /> department with 453 employees. Mayor Kim appeared before the Council from the Hilo Chambers <br /> and spoke highly of Ms. Waltjen and her willingness to manage numerous department projects around <br /> the island. Ms. Waltjen has been with the County's Department of Parks and Recreation for the past <br /> 29 years. She has previously served as the department's Culture &Education Administrator. <br /> Several Council Members commented in favor of Ms. Waltjen's nomination. Chair Ruggles informed <br /> Ms. Waltjen that she does not need to appear at the Council meeting on November 2, 2017, for <br /> confirmation of her appointment. <br /> Ms. Waltjen will serve a term co-terminus with Mayor Kim's tenure, which will end on <br /> December 7, 2020. <br /> Your Committee on Public Works and Parks and Recreation is in accord with the purpose and intent of <br /> Communication No. 488, and recommends confirmation of the appointment of Roxcie L.
