REQUEST: <br /> A resolution authorizing the Mayor to enter into an agreement to accept grant funds for the WEST Hawaii <br /> JUVENILE INTAKE AND ASSESSMENT CENTER PROJECT. <br /> We are requesting that the County accept $210,000.00 for the Prosecutor's Office to utilize for the <br /> continuation of the West Hawaii Juvenile Intake and Assessment Center Project. This would be <br /> Supplemental Contract No. 1 to Contract DHS-17-OYS-717. These are State funds from the Office of Youth <br /> Services, Department of Human Services. The funds would continue to be be sub-contracted by the Office <br /> of the Prosecuting Attorney to a non-profit agency for intake and assesment services for juveniles that the <br /> Hawaii County Police Department refers to the center. This is a continuation of the current grant/contract <br /> that extends the program from 6/1/2018 through 5/31/2019. <br /> We are requesting a bill for an ordinance to accept $210,000.00 for the West Hawaii Juvenile Intake and <br /> Assessment Center. This would include amending the budget to appropriate the funds to the project which <br /> already currently has a general ledger account and revenue account for the funds. <br /> We request to amend Ordinance 17-39 as amended, the Operating Budget for The County of Hawaii for <br /> the fiscal Year Ending June 30, 2018. We are requesting the waiving of further reading so as to expedite this <br /> process as time is an issue for this project <br /> • <br /> B. BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION (USE ADDITIONAL SHEETS AS NEEDED): <br /> The Prosecutors Office works in collaboration with non-profit organizations to ensure that services for youth <br /> are in place in our communities to provide alternatives to arrest and criminal processing. Funding the West <br /> Hawaii Juvenile Intake and Assessment Center will provide an appropriate, rapid, proactive and outcomes- <br /> driven response to juveniles willing to participate in an alternative process other than arrest and court <br /> proceedings. <br /> The Hawaii State Office of Youth Services is willing to continue reimbursement the county up to <br /> $210,000.00 to The Office of the Prosecuting Attorney., for another year, to ensure that the services are <br /> contracted for in West Hawaii for these activities. <br /> SIGNED: DATE: /4/11 - <br /> Department Head <br />
