The supporting organization is the Big Island <br /> Filipino Community Council (BIFCC). <br /> On July 7, 2017 — the Hawaii County Council approved a resolution introduced by <br /> Council Chair Valerie Poindexter establishing a sister city relationship between the <br /> County of Hawai'i and the Municipality of Cabugao, Province of (locos Sur, Philippines. <br /> Cabugao was selected to be a sister city to honor and acknowledge the contribution of <br /> the Filipino men known as "Sakadas", who were recruited to work in Hawaii sugar and <br /> County of Hawaii is an Equal Opportunity Provider and Employer. <br />
