D~Q~~ <br /> AGREEMENT ESTABLISHING A SISTER CITY RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE BIG <br /> ISLAND-COUNTY OF HAWAII AND IKAHO-MACHI, JAPAN. <br /> WHEREAS, in conformance to Ordinance 93-102 dated October 8, 1993, as it relates <br /> to the establishing of sister city relationships; and in support of Resolution No. <br /> dated , creating a sister city relationship between the County of Hawaii <br /> and Ikaho-Machi, Japan, the following is pertinent; <br /> WHEREAS, to nurture and sustain a continuing and purposeful relationship between <br /> these two communities, mutually agreed covenants to enhance this new association is <br /> worthy of consideration, <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that reciprocally accepted recitals are <br /> herewith consented to as follows: <br /> 1. There shall be a minimum of one goodwill mission exchanged within a five-year <br /> period; the first shall occur before December 31, 2001. Appropriate community, <br /> civic and service organizations shall be invited as participants and or facilitators for <br /> these occasions. <br /> 2. If available, exchange of documents on a regular basis will be programmed to <br /> facilitate interaction and communication, e.g., constitutions/charters, data books, <br /> annual reports, newsletters, various codes, special studies/reports, etc. <br /> 3. A student exchange program shall be pursued and initiated if feasible using resources <br /> such as the University of Hawaii-Hilo, the Department of Education and the <br /> participating schools. <br /> 4. An informational clearing house shall be established on the Big Island and <br /> Ikaho-Machi to provide interested and potential travelers with brochures, maps, <br /> periodicals and other documents for the purpose of easier access to travel <br /> information, and or economic opportunities on each respective island. <br /> S. Any other interaction in the form of educational, cultural, technical, trade, political, <br /> industrial or professional ideas having potential benefits shall be shared whenever <br /> possible. <br /> NOW, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the terms of this agreement are deemed to <br /> be mutually acceptable by Ikaho-Machi, Japan and the Big Island, County of Hawaii, as is <br /> attested and with the signatures affixed below. <br /> BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that this agreement formalizing the sister city relationship <br /> shall be officially effective on , in Hilo, Hawaii. <br /> IKAHO, JAPAN COUNTY OF HAWAII <br /> MINORU ISHIZAKA STEPHEN K.
