I•.oJtY OF N,�• <br /> ,1 <br /> '°` '' ' STATE OF HAWAII <br /> COUNTY OF HAWAII �:�--�'-��:• <br /> • <br /> 144 OF NI .• <br /> BILL NO. 213 <br /> ORDINANCE NO. <br /> AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 15,ARTICLE 7, OF THE HAWAII <br /> COUNTY CODE 1983 (2016 EDITION,AS AMENDED), RELATING TO THE <br /> VETERANS ADVISORY COMMITTEE. <br /> BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII: <br /> SECTION 1. Purpose. The purpose of this ordinance is to expand the scope of the <br /> powers and duties of the Veterans Advisory Committee. At this time, the Veterans Advisory <br /> Committee is authorized to act in an advisory capacity to the Mayor and Council for matters <br /> concerning veterans cemeteries in the County of Hawai`i. Only at the request of the Mayor or <br /> the Council shall the committee shall discuss and make recommendations on other veterans- <br /> related issues. <br /> Mayor Harry Kim has requested that the Veterans Advisory Committee be authorized to <br /> initiate discussions and formulate recommendations, on its own accord, regarding homelessness, <br /> health care, unemployment, and other issues relating to Hawai`i County's veterans. The purpose <br /> of this ordinance is to allow the Veterans Advisory Committee to initiate discussions and make <br /> recommendations on veterans-related issues and concerns without a prior request by the Mayor <br /> or the Council. <br /> SECTION 2. Chapter 15, article 7, section 15-64, of the Hawai`i County Code 1983 <br /> (2016 Edition, as amended), is amended to read as follows: <br /> "Section 15-64. Powers and duties of the committee. <br /> It shall be the duty of the committee to act in an advisory capacity to the mayor and the <br /> council concerning all matters pertaining to the operation, management, and maintenance of the <br /> veterans cemeteries in the County[.-], and discuss and make recommendations on issues affecting <br /> veterans residing in Hawai`i County. At the request of the mayor or the council,the committee <br /> shall discuss and make recommendations on other specific veterans-related issues. The <br /> committee may recommend such rules and regulations as it may deem necessary for the <br /> enhancement and proper management of the veterans cemeteries, or for the orderly transaction of <br /> matters referred to it." <br /> SECTION 3. Material to be repealed is bracketed and stricken. New material is <br /> underscored. In printing this ordinance,the brackets, bracketed and stricken material, and <br /> underscoring need not be included. <br />
