JZY Os!!'*%r COUNTY OF HAWAII •� _# E OF M' ORDINANCE NO. 9 `3 STATE OF HAWAII BILL NO. 213 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 15, ARTICLE 7, OF THE HAWAII COUNTY CODE 1983 (2016 EDITION, AS AMENDED), RELATING TO THE VETERANS ADVISORY COMMITTEE. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII: SECTION 1. Purpose. The purpose of this ordinance is to expand the scope of the powers and duties of the Veterans Advisory Committee. At this time, the Veterans Advisory Committee is authorized to act in an advisory capacity to the Mayor and Council for matters concerning veterans cemeteries in the County of Hawaii. Only at the request of the Mayor or the Council shall the committee shall discuss and make recommendations on other veterans - related issues. Mayor Harry Kim has requested that the Veterans Advisory Committee be authorized to initiate discussions and formulate recommendations, on its own accord, regarding homelessness, health care, unemployment, and other issues relating to Hawaii County's veterans. The purpose of this ordinance is to allow the Veterans Advisory Committee to initiate discussions and make recommendations on veterans -related issues and concerns without a prior request by the Mayor or the Council. SECTION 2. Chapter 15, article 7, section 15-64, of the Hawaii County Code 1983 (2016 Edition, as amended), is amended to read as follows: "Section 15-64. Powers and duties of the committee. It shall be the duty of the committee to act in an advisory capacity to the mayor and the council concerning all matters pertaining to the operation, management, and maintenance of the veterans cemeteries in the County[...], and discuss and make recommendations on issues affecting veterans residing in Hawaii County. At the request of the mayor or the council, the committee shall discuss and make recommendations on others ecific veterans -related issues. The committee may recommend such rules and regulations as it may deem necessary for the enhancement and proper management of the veterans cemeteries, or for the orderly transaction of matters referred to it." SECTION 3. Material to be repealed is bracketed and stricken. New material is underscored. In printing this ordinance, the brackets, bracketed and stricken material, and underscoring need not be included.
