REQUEST: <br /> Prepare a resolution authorizing the Mayor to enter into a multi-year agreement for two (2) years, with U.S. <br /> Department of Transportation, to ensure continuity of essential air service at the Waimea-Kohala Airport. <br /> B. BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION (USE ADDITIONAL SHEETS AS NEEDED): <br /> This multi-year agreement between US. Department of Transportation (U.S.DOT) and Hawaii County will <br /> allow U.S.DOT to contract for Essential Air Service (EAS) at Kamuela Hawaii, pursuant to 49 U.S.C. §41731 <br /> et seq. The U.S DOT requires community funding to enter into a contract for EAS when an airport is less <br /> than 40 miles from the nearest small hub airport.
