Lee Loy, Co <br />SUBJECT: Proposed closure ofKeaukaha Road. <br />In support of a comprehensive effort to reduce illegal behavior in this area, I have a resolution, <br />pendingintroduction to the County Council, which would authorize the Police Department to <br />enforce a nightly closure of Keaukaha Road in the South Hilo District. <br />Section 24-153.3 of the County Code, subsection (b), allows the Council to authorize a closure <br />"in consultation with the. chief of police and the director of public works." <br />Keaukaha. Road is well-known for illegal activity primarily alcohol and drug use in relation to <br />nearby James Kealoha. Beach Park. Motorists imbibing here would then pose a DUI hazard after <br />departing the area. Nightly closures of this road would address this hazard. <br />I look forward to your comments on this proposal.
