Lee Loy, Co 4mia� <br />SUBJECT: Proposed closure of Keaukaha Road. <br />In support of a comprehensive effort to reduce illegal behavior in this area, I have a resolution, <br />pending introduction to the County Council, which would authorize the Police Departmentto <br />enforce a. nightly closure ofKeaukaha Road. in the South Hilo District. <br />Section 24-153.3 of the County Code, subsection (b), allows the Councilto authorize a closure <br />"in consultation with the chief of police and the director of public works." <br />Keaukaha Road is well-known for illegal activity — primarily alcohol and. drug use in relation; to <br />nearby James Kealoha.Beach Park. Motorists imbibing here would then pose a DUI hazard after <br />departing the area. Nightly closures of this road would address this hazard. <br />I look forward to your comments on this proposal.
