Merrick H. Nishimoto, Deputy Director of Public Works
January 9, 2019
Page 2
• Regarding the Gas Station & Canopy signs — concerns were raised to the overall size of
the sign and the size of the font and icons. Suggestions/recommendations are that the
overall size of the signs be reduced to no longer require a variance but that the font and
icon size be allowed a variance that is to match the variance allowance established by
the Lanihau Center Development.
• Regarding the Tenant Signs — concerns were raised that the application did not provide
any details with regard to font type or color scheme. Suggestions/recommendations are
that the applicant provide font type and a color palette that future tenants are to use for
the signs.
By copy of this letter, the applicant and owners are advised that the recommendation by the Design
Commission is advisory only to the Director of Public Works.
Should you have any questions, please contact Deanne Bugado of the Planning Department's West
Hawaii office at 323-4770.
Sincerely,
--
Shaun Roth, Chair
Kailua Village Design Conunission
DEB/deb
ccohN IVKVDCl20 t9 Cor espondence,75004007 Niurnalu Market Place Master Sign Plan-Deferal,docenceDefetial 75022096 Sundquist.doc
cc: Nvls.
