No. 422-19 <br /> PLACE: Council Chambers <br /> Hilo, Hawaii <br /> TIME: 5:30 p.m. <br /> Council Chair and Members <br /> Hawaii County Council <br /> Hilo, Hawaii 96720 <br /> Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Resolution No. 422-19, reports as follows: <br /> Resolution No. 422-19, transmitted by Finance Director Deanna Sako, via Communication No. 631 <br /> dated November 14, 2019, authorizes the payment of funds of a later fiscal year and of more than one <br /> fiscal year for a multi-year lease of real property for the County of Hawaii,Hawaii Fire Department. <br /> This resolution authorizes the Anekona Ouli Kanehoa Volunteer Fire Company, a Hawaii non-profit <br /> organization, to assign the balance of its lease for a fire station at 62-2489 Waiula Drive, Kamuela, to <br /> the Hawaii Fire Department to operate its 9 Bravo Volunteer Fire Station. The ninety-nine year lease <br /> held by Hale Wailam Partners LP, commenced on June 5, 2014, and ends on June 5, 2113. <br /> Council Member Herbert M. "Tim"Richards, III commented that this is the Volunteer Fire Department <br /> in Waimea that complements our Fire Department and they are well-known for their firefighting. He <br /> also stated that 9 Bravo is strategically placed half-way down Kawaihae Hill and is a positive and <br /> needed asset for the greater Waimea area. <br /> Anekona Ouli Kanehoa Volunteer Fire(AOK VFD) Company's President, Guido Giacommetti, <br /> explained that this corporation was set up to support 9 Bravo, which is part of the volunteer firefighters <br /> on the island, and who provides assistance to the Fire Department. 9 Bravo has a couple of trucks, one <br /> with a 1,200-gallon capacity and another engine pumper. He stated for the last five years it has sat in the <br /> front yard and that AOK undertook the building as a volunteer apparatus garage. This land lease will <br /> transfer the real property, including the building and all the improvements, to the department for AOK <br /> VFD's use. <br /> Mike Shattuck, Captain of the 9 Bravo Volunteer Fire Company, commented they currently have eight <br /> volunteers on staff and respond to 35-40 fires annually. <br /> FC Report No. 91 <br />
