COMMITTEE ON AGING MEETING - MINUTES March 29, 2019 Page 2 3. APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF THE JANUARY 30,2018: Frankie Stapleton moved to accept the Minutes, Lito Asuncion seconded, unanimously passed. 4. COMMENTS FROM THE CHAIR: Meizhu Lui Meizhu thanked the staff for all the work they have done in this very busy sea- son, especially in developing the huge 4 -Year Area Plan! 5. STATEMENTS FROM THE PUBLIC - none 6. EXECUTIVE'S REPORT ON 2018: C. Kimo Alameda and Staff a. Ten (10) Major Achievements: 1. Silver Bulletin — 500 internet subscribers and >4,000 copies sent out. 2. Advanced Health Care Directives — Hit the 500' initiative 3. Directory — Revamped and is now 8 pages with updates every 3 months 4. Disaster Preparedness — Increased preparation since the eruption and large contributions to volcano disaster relief 5. Annual Reports 6. Yard Services — added through Kupuna Care funds 7. Housing consciousness — Corey has been hired and works closely with senior housing 8. Website — Being revamped through an outside consultant. The goal is to make it more interactive and ADA compliant. 9. Kupuna Caregivers program — Legislation is deciding whether to keep funding at $70 per day vs. $350 per week. Kimo will be pre- senting the county's draft plan next week Friday. 10. Outstanding Older Americans luncheon (see below) b. Seven new staff have been added over the last four years. Wesley Tani- gawa is now permanent and Cherine Pai is the newest Aging & Disabil- ity Services Specialist. The Intake and Referral staff has increased. C. New Area Plan: There will be time for public comment on May 8 at the Hawai'i Civic Center in Kona. Kimo encouraged us to go. This is the only public hearing that will be held. We will spend time at the next meeting going over the draft of the Plan's Goals and Objectives for 2019 - 2023.
