COMMITTEE ON AGING MEETING - MINUTES <br />March 29, 2019 <br />Page 2 <br />3. APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF THE JANUARY 30,2018: <br />Frankie Stapleton moved to accept the Minutes, Lito Asuncion seconded, <br />unanimously passed. <br />4. COMMENTS FROM THE CHAIR: Meizhu Lui <br />Meizhu thanked the staff for all the work they have done in this very busy sea- <br />son, especially in developing the huge 4 -Year Area Plan! <br />5. STATEMENTS FROM THE PUBLIC - none <br />6. EXECUTIVE'S REPORT ON 2018: C. Kimo Alameda and Staff <br />a. Ten (10) Major Achievements: <br />1. Silver Bulletin — 500 internet subscribers and >4,000 copies sent <br />out. <br />2. Advanced Health Care Directives — Hit the 500' initiative <br />3. Directory — Revamped and is now 8 pages with updates every 3 <br />months <br />4. Disaster Preparedness — Increased preparation since the eruption <br />and large contributions to volcano disaster relief <br />5. Annual Reports <br />6. Yard Services — added through Kupuna Care funds <br />7. Housing consciousness — Corey has been hired and works closely <br />with senior housing <br />8. Website — Being revamped through an outside consultant. The <br />goal is to make it more interactive and ADA compliant. <br />9. Kupuna Caregivers program — Legislation is deciding whether to <br />keep funding at $70 per day vs. $350 per week. Kimo will be pre- <br />senting the county's draft plan next week Friday. <br />10. Outstanding Older Americans luncheon (see below) <br />b. Seven new staff have been added over the last four years. Wesley Tani- <br />gawa is now permanent and Cherine Pai is the newest Aging & Disabil- <br />ity Services Specialist. The Intake and Referral staff has increased. <br />C. New Area Plan: There will be time for public comment on May 8 at <br />the Hawai'i Civic Center in Kona. Kimo encouraged us to go. This is <br />the only public hearing that will be held. We will spend time at the <br />next meeting going over the draft of the Plan's Goals and Objectives <br />for 2019 - 2023. <br />
