Hawaii Game Management Advisory Commission Meeting <br />Minutes – May 14, 2019 <br />NP: My request is really simple – that a Game Management Plan in the writing of <br />it would be all about sustainable game management – that that’s what it <br />would be about and shouldn’t it be about sustainable if it’s about our game – <br />a management plan for our game – shouldn’t it be to sustain them – make a <br />plan their sustainable. And the reason I asked you to stay Richard is cause I <br />wanted to ask you in a nutshell – what is good game management? <br /> <br />RH: Oh, I’m sorry. Are you talking to me? <br /> <br />NP: Yes, in a nutshell – what is good game management? <br /> <br />RH: Well, it’s right here is somewhere – all I got to do is find it. Hang on. <br /> <br />NP: I just wanted to be really clear that we want a policy of good game <br />management... <br /> <br />RH: How’s that – well, I’ll read it to you. <br /> <br />NP: Well, your own words are good... <br /> <br />RH: This is Aldo Leopold in 1933 – in his book – game management. “Game <br />Management is the art of making land produce sustained annual crops of wild <br />game for recreational use.” <br /> <br />SB: I suggest that the Commission drafts a letter and sends that to our <br />Chairperson describing what you want to see in that plan. <br /> <br />NP: Pretty much did. <br /> <br />TN: What happened to home rule? We’re the County GMAC Commission – how <br />come we can’t make our own home rule? To be part of your game <br />management plan – not you telling us what to do – but we sharing our <br />information with you so we can collectively put a management plan together. <br /> <br />AA: Abraham – isn’t there a constitutional right – Hawaii Constitution that states <br />you guys supposed to protect our game? <br /> <br />NP: That they’re entrusted – they belong to the people... <br /> <br />AA: It belongs to the people and it’s entrusted – a constitutional right. So why is <br />there – I see there is a need of a game management plan – but as far as all <br />the eradications and stuff I know the part of endangered species – and <br />invasive species and all that – but it’s a constitutional right that you guys <br />should have stopped the Feds for even coming in in the first place and doing <br />all that. <br /> <br />15 <br /> <br /> <br />
