HAWAII POLICE COMMISSION <br />REGULAR SESSION MINUTES <br />MAY 17, 2019 <br />WEST HAWAII CIVIC CENTER, BUILDING G CONFERENCE ROOM <br />74-5044 ANE KEOHOKALOLE HWY, KAILUA-KONA, HAWAII <br />CALL TO ORDER <br />Vice Chair Pasco called the meeting to order at 9:15 a.m. <br />ROLL CALL <br />Present: Colleen Pasco, Vice Chair <br />John Bertsch, Commissioner <br />Thomas Brown, Commissioner <br />Jude Mattos, Commissioner <br />Denby Toci, Commissioner <br />Absent: Wayne De Luz, Chair <br />Jak Hu, Commissioner <br />Joan Obra, Commissioner <br />Paul Paiva, Commissioner <br />A quorum was present. <br />Also present: Paul Ferreira, Police Chief <br />Kenneth Bugado, Deputy Chief <br />James O'Connor, Assistant Chief <br />Mitchell Kanehailua, Assistant Chief <br />Samuel Thomas, Assistant Chief <br />Burt Shimabukuro, Captain <br />Malia Hall, Deputy Corporation Counsel <br />Josie Pelayo, Secretary <br />STATEMENTS FROM THE PUBLIC ON AGENDA ITEMS (None.) <br />APPROVAL OF MINUTES <br />Commissioner Mattos motioned to approve the minutes of April 12, 2019, regular and <br />executive session minutes. Commissioner Toci seconded, and it carried unanimously. <br />POLICE CHIEF'S REPORT ON DEPARTMENT ACTIVITIES <br />Items from the written reports were highlighted: <br />Crime Report: AC Kanehailua reported that up through April 30, there were 6,644 <br />serious crimes. The Criminal Investigation Units investigated 724 of those cases. <br />For the month of April, they received 8,289 calls for services. No crime trends were <br />reported for the month of April. <br />
