The <br />meeting will be held in Kona. <br />Chair Walters is familiar with this <br />group, or similar concept, and <br />will be sharing it with the <br />committee at another time. <br />Member Shirachi reported on the <br />Housing sub -committee. Efforts <br />continue to look into County of <br />Hawaii, County of Honolulu and <br />State of Hawaii efforts on <br />creating a housing options for <br />persons who are harder to place <br />into typical housing units. The <br />issues regarding housing <br />insecurity may be tied with the <br />depletion of available housing <br />units due to sales of homes to <br />dislocated residents impacted by <br />the lava flow. The <br />implementation of this program <br />appears to be successful in <br />Honolulu, is a collaborative effort <br />including private and public <br />partnership and has been <br />existence for a few years. The <br />complexity of the issue is one that <br />needs to be addressed on a <br />comprehensive nature for <br />sustainability purposes - for <br />housing, medical and mental <br />health services, transportation, <br />and employment. <br />Members are interested in hearing <br />more about private homeowners <br />who want to support the homeless <br />living on their property, of the <br />possibility of exploring the <br />"customary and traditional <br />practices" of the host family, of <br />Hawai 'i County is an equal opportunity provider and employer.
