IX. PROJECTS <br />A. Teen Dating Violence <br />• Mele submitted all edits to YWCA a week after our December 11, <br />2015 meeting. Pending feedback from YWCA. <br />Action: Mele will follow-up with YWCA on status of website. <br />B. Proposed Activities for 2016 <br />• Budget is $985 dollars; limited budget; potential 2 -day maximum if <br />looking at speaker from off -island. <br />• Give-aways are the reminder that we leave behind with the student. <br />Whoever the speaker is- he or she may have their own give-away. <br />• Need to identify dynamic speaker for Hawaii Island. <br />• Farrah recommended looking at schools; identify geographic <br />representation; logistics of how to strategize a roadmap. <br />• Farrah recommended train the trainer concept if we can pull 15 <br />adults working with teens and we can work with them to deliver the <br />message; they become ambassadors for Hawaii Island; this may <br />result in a better use of funds. <br />Action: Deb and Jewel will connect with Cyd and provide update at our next <br />meeting in February 2016. <br />C. Real Women Essay Contest <br />• A total of more than 71 essays were received; actually 85 but a <br />number of essays were ineligible for not meeting all criteria. <br />• A total of 46 essays were completed; with picture; copies; signature <br />sheet; categorized by grades. <br />• We have a total of 12 slots for judging; some members may need to <br />read in more than one category. <br />• Rubric to judge essays was created. Rubric was created by looking <br />at the contest rules on how we are judging essays- in areas of <br />focus; effective use of descriptive language, level of interest, <br />voice and style, conventions. Rubric agreed upon by members. <br />• Luncheon date was tentatively scheduled for March 2016, but we <br />need to push back to April 2016 due to Spring Breaks, Merrie <br />Monarch, Easter, and Lavaman. <br />• Decision made that committee will work with prosecutor's office to <br />secure venue bid for April 17. <br />• Farrah shared an article posted "A look back at the Real women <br />essay hosted by Hawaii Island Electric" and article says how Big <br />Island Electric Inc worked with CSW on Oahu. We need to confirm <br />the sponsor/facts of Hawaii Island Electric. <br />• We need to explore sponsors to support Essay Contest. <br />• Menu — keep within budget- 1 hot; 1 salad/1 hot vegetable; ice <br />cream w/ toppings; water/ coffee/ tea- round tables of 8 <br />3 <br />
