a. Power — women have the knowledge and power to <br />influence people, situations, and their current position <br />of employment. <br />b. Communication Skills- women must use effective <br />communication skills during the interview session by <br />preparing in advance a strategic plan to achieve <br />desired outcomes. <br />c. Time- women should give serious thought about the <br />employment salary being offered in relation to their <br />education, experience, skill sets, and value. <br />d. Information- women can increase opportunities to <br />advance by gathering basics information on <br />negotiation process. <br />VIII. PROJECTS <br />A. Teen Dating Violence <br />• Project proposal by Jewel was shared. Project is aiming for 2017 <br />— Teen Video clip as a strategy to create awareness for teens and <br />healthy relationships. <br />• Deb has a youth group who can produce the video as part of their <br />program. <br />• Planning for a lunch to recognize youth, partnerships made and <br />platform of the "launch" to kick start event. <br />• Project committee agreed that a partnership with a local non-profit <br />lunch with special invitees such as Hawaii County Council, <br />educators, and community representatives would be beneficial. <br />• Cost for event would be no more than $50 for certificates and <br />envelopes and no more than $450 for venue and refreshments. A <br />letter to principals could be shared with a message of community <br />service. A total of $500 has already been approved from CSW <br />budget but approval for line items is still being sought. <br />• 6 kids enrolled in project, but we will acknowledge others -to be <br />discussed. <br />Action: Debra will check with the program to see how the funds can be used. <br />B. Real Women Essay Contest <br />• Discussed dates available in April 2016. <br />• Discussed the need for a press release. <br />• Decided upon April 9 date for Real Woman Essay luncheon. <br />• Project committee will meet to discuss RFQ. <br />Action: Lee -Ann to send press release to Renee for approval. <br />C. Hawaii Island Women's Leadership Forum <br />• Finalized bill with Hilton and payment is complete with all expenses <br />covered. <br />3 <br />
