And we've also been able to provide <br />2 <br />private sector -- comparisons to private sector salaries <br />3 <br />within the State. <br />4 <br />So, like, for example, a project engineer in the <br />5 <br />private sector, maybe for, you know, Hawai ʻ i Dredging or <br />6 <br />something like that, was in -- we found that to be similar <br />7 <br />type responsibilities and duties to maybe one of our <br />8 <br />Department of Public Works engineers. So we brought that <br />9 <br />information in as well and provided it as comparison <br />10 <br />information to the Salary Commission. As you know, the <br />11 <br />Salary Commission is tasked by the Hawai ʻ i County Charter to <br />12 <br />set the salaries for department heads, deputies and <br />13 <br />administrative staff, elected officials. And we've been <br />14 <br />meeting, you know, several times on that. The next meeting <br />15 <br />is scheduled for December. <br />16 <br />As I alluded to earlier, we've had some domino <br />17 <br />effects with our hiring’s -- internal hiring’s. We hired a HR <br />18 <br />Tech II, Tammy Shiraishi, to backfill for Leslie Shimabukuro, <br />19 <br />who got promoted to Marla Yamashita's position, who retired. <br />20 <br />So you know how that works, right? <br />21 <br />We were very happy -- as a director, you know, I <br />22 <br />was very happy to be able to offer internal recruitment, you <br />23 <br />know, career advancement for our departmental employees <br />24 <br />moving forward.
