STATE EXECUTIVE ON AGING (EOA): Caroline Cadirao, EOA Director and Aaron Arakaki, Grants Manager A. Caroline focused her remarks on the Kupuna Caregiver’s Pro- gram which is being improved for 2020 based on the successes and challenges of the 2019 year. EOA will lead in the efforts to let more people know about the program so they can apply; redesign- ing the eligibility criteria, using targeting criteria based on the fi- nancial needs of the caregiver, and the level of care needed by the family member to prioritize where the dollars will go, support care- givers to maximize their employment opportunities, and plan to evaluate the Program at the end of the year. Discussion: While we are glad to have financial help for working family caregivers, the Program leaves out many caregivers who are not working thirty-plus (30+) hours per week. Some of these are the most needy families. While helpful to family caregivers, it does not address the worker shortage for elders who do not have family
