In addition, the Program creates <br />new administrative challenges with all the rules that must be fol- <br />lowed and there is a cost to this administration. We wondered <br />whether rolling the dollars for Kupuna Caregivers into Kupuna Care <br />services, using some of the money for working caregivers, but al- <br />lowing flexibility to meet the greatest needs in each County that <br />would be a more effective way to get the most care services and the <br />biggest bang for the taxpayer’s buck. Lito Asuncion noted that the <br />administrative rules were supposed to be created for Kupuna Care, <br />but in the 20 years that KC has existed, this has not been done! <br />Caroline said that they have a 2022 deadline to get it done. <br />C. Next steps: To follow up on our last meeting on the home caregiver <br />shortage, we asked Caroline to set up a task force to work on the <br />critical issues. She said she was convening such a body. Shelly <br />Ogata suggested that we form a sub-committee for Hawaii County <br />that can interact with the state body. <br /> <br />8. ADVISORY COMMITTEE ISSUE: LONG TERM CARE <br /> <br />9 LEGISLATIVE ISSUES: None <br /> <br />10. AGENCY AND DISTRICT NEWS AND UPDATES <br />Patrick Toal from the Alzheimer’s Association let us know about a new <br />program they will be rolling out, a “Memory Cafe Hui” for people with <br />mild forms of dementia and their caregivers. Once a month they will <br />gather at the ADRC office for fun and challenges to keep their minds ac- <br />tive. Interacting with others with the same health conditions will create a <br />safe and comforting space. <br /> <br />11. ANNOUNCEMENTS: Patrick Toal, Alzheimer’s Association <br />announced that the “Memory Café Hui” is doing well. Every fourth <br />Tuesday of each month. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />
