The documents were then carefully reviewed by staff and faculty of the William S. Richardson <br />School of Law. The analysis was designed to answer two questions: 1) do the documents comply <br />with current interpretation of fair housing law; and 2) are the policies and procedures adequate to <br />the task of affirmatively furthering equal housing access for disadvantaged communities in <br />Hawai`i. <br />County of Hawai'i Demographic Profile <br />This section provides an overview of population characteristics of the County of Hawai'i, paying <br />specific attention to protected classes of people and population groups most likely to struggle to <br />find adequate housing. It begins with individual -level demographic data related to age, sex, race, <br />national origin, and disability status. The remainder of the section focuses on household- and <br />family -level demographics, including household composition, income, and poverty status. Both the county and state have nearly equal numbers of males and <br />females. However, the population of Hawai'i County is older than the overall state population, <br />both in terms of median age and the percentage of people over the age of 65.
