September 2008: Kona Community Development Plan(KCDP) is adopted by the <br /> County Council for the purpose of expressing Kona residents' vision for guiding regional <br /> development. The CDP identifies the"University Village"Transit-Oriented Development <br /> (TOD) Regional Center on the Palamanui property. According to the CDP, the goal is to <br /> use the university use the university as a catalyst for complementary commercial <br /> opportunities surrounding the campus and to attract students, faculty, and staff to live on <br /> or near campus. The university would hopefully be a center for cultural and performing <br /> arts, life-long learning, innovation, and workforce development that would benefit the <br /> broader community. (P.D.
